description
This is a new edition of comprehensive anthology of Fryderyk Chopin’s correspondence and criticism thereof, which primary purpose is to compile all the letters written by Chopin and those addressed to him which survived. The first of three volumes to be published includes letters written between December 1816 and September 1831 (Volume II will include the letters written between November 1831 and May 1839, Volume III will be composed of the letters written between June 1839 and September 1849). The current state of knowledge about Chopin's correspondence is highly outdated and incomplete, and the most accessible source remains the “Correspondence of Fryderyk Chopin” in two volumes, compiled by Bronisław Edward Sydow. The book was published in 1955 and requires numerous corrections and clarifications. It is therefore expected that the new, integrated edition will present Chopin’s correspondence not only in accordance with scientific requirements, but also in terms of its rich historical and cultural contexts.
