A book richly illustrated with historical illustrations, introducing a figure of Julian Fontana seen through his letters (mainly to S. E. Koźmian). Magdalena Oliferko discovered the difficult Fontana’s relationship with the master and his personal tragedy.
A book by Magdalena Oliferko is an absolute innovation, as it comprises the letters included in the Julian Fontana’s manuscripts to Stanisław E. Koźmian, shedding new light on the relationship between Chopin and Fontana. The author, owing to archival research, reached the number of documents related to the Fontana's biography. (...) The partially unknown profiles of both figures, their sarcasm, wit and complexes emerge through the letters, their selection and a way of presenting including illustrations and commentaries (...). This kind of study has never been available and has never appeared either in the Polish or foreign literature. It is, therefore, a unique book, and it can be described as outstanding.
