JACEK KASPSZYK studied conducting, theory and composition at the Warsaw Academy of Music, graduating in 1975. In the same year, he made his debut at the Polish National Opera in Warsaw with a new production of Don Giovanni. In 1976, he became guest conductor of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, and a year later he won Third Prize in the prestigious Karajan Competition. In 1978, he was appointed Principal Conductor and two years later Music Director of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR), with which he made several European tours. In 1982, he moved to London, where he made his debut with the Philharmonia Orchestra. In 1994, he renewed his work with Polish institutions, including the Warsaw Philharmonic and Warsaw Chamber Opera. He has held many directorial posts, including managing director of the Polish National Opera, music director of the Lithuanian Opera and Ballet in Vilnius, artistic director of the Witold Lutosławski Philharmonic in Wrocław (2007-2013) and music director of the NOSPR in Katowice (2009-2012). Since 2013, he has been artistic director of the Warsaw Philharmonic, He has guest conducted leading orchestras throughout most of Europe. Highly regarded in the field of opera, he has conducted in Düsseldorf, Paris, Lyon, Bordeaux, Stockholm, London, Leeds, Zurich, Buenos Aires and Seville. His numerous recordings for disc have won many awards, including the Edison Prize. Since 2008, he has participated regularly in the ‘Chopin and his Europe\\' festival.
