The book is establishing the new publishing series titled POETRY / MUSIC, in which the lyrics of the songs are be published together with translations.

The poetic translations of three masterpieces by Franz Schubert: Die schöne Müllerin, Die Winterreise  and Schwanengesang were prepared for this book by Prof. Andrzej Lam. They can serve as the guide for both listening to the songs and at the concert hall. It is not a coincidence that the series starts with Schubert’s cycles – it is a real crown not only of his own songs, but the entire history of the genre of song in Western culture.

The series, starting with this publication, aims to fill the gap which is the lack of good, poetically valuable translations of the songs in Polish, translations that would at the same time show scrupulously the content of the original version and would not deprive the reader-listener of satisfaction from experiencing poetry of a high value. The aim maybe seems to be an attempt to join water with fire, so the compromise is therefore necessary, but it will be the one meeting the criteria presented above. It requires preparing new translations addressed to the contemporary recipient.
