Written in 1885, Juliusz Zarębski’s Piano Quintet in G minor, alongside the masterworks of Beethoven, Schumann, Brahms and Dvořák, is one of the most beautiful works of Romantic chamber music.
Rediscovered by Martha Argerich and her outstanding collaborators, it has been returning to concert halls around the world since its sensational performance at the Lugano Festival in 2011, issued on disc by EMI.
The Fryderyk Chopin Institute now presents Zarębski’s Quintet on DVD, in the marvellous interpretation of Argerich, the Polish violinists Bartłomiej Nizioł and Agata Szymczewska (both winners of the Wieniawski Competition), the Russian cellist Alexander Neustroev and the viola player Lyda Chen.
This DVD opens a series of video recordings of extraordinary concerts held as part of the International Music Festival 'Chopin and his Europe'.
