This album contains two extraordinarily charming piano concertos written in the 1880s: the Concerto in A minor op. 17 of Ignacy Jan Paderewski – a legendary figure not only in music history, but also in the history of the Polish people – as well as the Concerto in B-flat minor op. 66 of Giuseppe Martucci – a piano virtuoso, composer and conductor. At the center of this release is Nelson Goerner – a celebrity in the contemporary piano playing world who has been realizing very highly-rated concert and recording projects with The Fryderyk Chopin Institute; the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra (in the Paderewski concerto) and Sinfonia Varsovia (in the Martucci concerto) are led by Jacek Kaspszyk – one of the most distinguished Polish conductors, the director of the Warsaw Philharmonic.
The disc is being released in the ‘Concerts Frozen in time’ series, which records selected artistic projects of The Fryderyk Chopin Institute – here: two evenings from the 2009 and 2010 ‘Chopin and his Europe’ Festivals.
