Etude in F minor from Fétis and Moscheles’ Méthode des Méthodes pour le piano
The manuscript of the Etude in F minor is to be found in the collections of the Fryderyk Chopin Museum in Warsaw. It is a rough draft autograph manuscript, exceptionally interesting from the viewpoint of Chopin’s creative process – numerous corrections and deletions are visible, attesting to the polishing of details in the Etude, as well as to the composer’s vacillations concerning the rhythmic shaping of the melodic line.
This is one of three Etudes composed for the Méthode des Méthodes pour le piano collection, which was put together in 1839, and published the next year. The etudes placed in the Méthode were Chopin’s last works in this genre. The autograph manuscript is being published for the first time in facsimile form. The volume is supplied with source commentary authored by Prof. Zofia Chechlińska.
