Fryderyk Chopin Institute presents another White Series CD with Chopin’s complete works. A chamber edition of piano concertos by Kevin Kenner – winner of the 1990 Chopin Competition, Apollon Musagète Quartet – one of the most creative European string quartets, and eminent double bassist Sławomir Rozlach.
PWM Edition published a new arrangement of the two pieces by Krzysztof Dombek and Kevin Kenner. In his commentary to the CD the latter noted that “the fundamental purpose of this edition of Chopin’s piano concertos was to create a reduction of the full orchestra score taking into consideration the special requirements of a small instrumental ensemble, at the same time remaining as close to Chopin’s original as possible. (…) Chopin often performed his concertos in assorted small arrangements: a practice common among his contemporary composers-pianists. Unfortunately, no version for strings and piano that could be attributed to Chopin has survived.”
Although this is not the first arrangement of the two masterpieces for a chamber ensemble, we are certain that this is the first to captivate all Chopin aficionados.
